My name is Joe Stewart. I'm a designer and Founding Partner of Work & Co.
Work & Co is a design and technology company. We opened seven years ago, and now have about 400 people across 6 offices in Brooklyn, Portland, Rio, São Paulo, Belgrade, and Copenhagen. We’re known for designing, developing, and shipping digital products that transform companies.
Ad Age named Work & Co to its A-List. We were also named Digiday's Agency of the Year. Fast Company has honored Work & Co on its Most Innovative Companies twice, and we were dubbed one of the “most consequential agencies of the decade” by Forbes.
Work & Co is fortunate to work with many of the most admired companies in the world. My personal client list includes Apple, Google, YouTube, Target, Ikea, Virgin America, Red Robin, Gatorade, Philz Coffee, & Rapha.
My most frequently-cited public work is the award-winning website & app for Virgin America — which I designed with Felipe Memoria. I worked on the Virgin America logo with Jesse McMillin. That work was honored by Cannes Lions, the Clios, The Pixel Awards, the Webbys (3 years in a row), and took the Grand Prize at The UX Awards.
For Apple, I helped redefine the retail experience by launching Today at Apple, along with Casey Sheehan and Hashem Bajwa. That work won both a Grand Prix and a Titanium Lion at Cannes.
I worked on YouTube Music with Dever Thomas. It is now the default music app on all Android phones.
I also launched a mobile order-ahead app for Philz Coffee, working with Francisca Hawkins. It’s now responsible for 30% of all orders company wide.
As a cyclist, one of my all-time favorite brands is Rapha. It was a dream project to work on the redesign of their website, which I did with James Ayres. That work was honored by Creative Review and the Webbys 2 years in a row.
The Portland office of Work & Co, where I’m based, was recently named one of the 50 Best Places to Work in Oregon.
I’ve been named by Fast Company as one of the Most Creative People in Business. Net Magazine named me one of the Top 50 Web Designers.
I hold design patents for Apple, Google, & Target.
My work has been featured in Wired Magazine, How Magazine, Fast Company, Communication Arts, Net Magazine, Creative Review, Ad Age, Adweek, The New York Times, Apple.com, and in several Apple Keynotes.
Before Work & Co, I was a Partner & global head of creative at Huge. During my time there I designed Target.com, Jetblue.com, Reuters.com, and many others.
I've been a design juror for SXSW's Interactive Awards, The Webby Awards, Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards, Cannes, & The Pixel Awards.
Sometimes I give talks at design conferences. I've spoken at Design Week, SoDA, Collision, Creative Mornings, The Delight Conference, and others.
